Terms & Conditions

These terms are the agreement between you and AlyaskaTeam about using MapMeet. By creating an account or using the app, you accept them. If you don't, please don't use MapMeet.

Read section 8 even if you read nothing else

MapMeet helps you find people and events near you and then meet them in the real world. We do not verify who anyone is. Your safety when you meet someone is your own responsibility, and section 8 explains what that means.

1. Who you're dealing with

MapMeet is provided by AlyaskaTeam ("AlyaskaTeam", "we", "us"), based in Ukraine.

"MapMeet" or "the app" means the MapMeet iOS app, Android app and web app, and any related services we provide.

How we handle your personal data is described separately in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

2. Who can use MapMeet

You may use MapMeet only if:

you are 16 or older;
you can form a binding contract with us;
you are not barred from using the service under the laws that apply to you; and
you have not previously been banned from MapMeet.

If you are under 16, you may not create an account. If we learn that you are, we will close the account.

3. Your account

Give accurate information when you sign up, and keep it current.
You are responsible for your password and for everything that happens under your account. Tell us promptly at artem.liaskovets@gmail.com if you think someone else has access to it.
One person, one account. Don't create an account for someone else, and don't sell or transfer your account.
Don't impersonate anyone, and don't pick a username or display name designed to suggest you are someone you are not.
Some accounts show a blue verified mark. That indicates a MapMeet staff or moderator role — nothing more. Don't try to imitate it.

4. Your licence to use MapMeet

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use MapMeet for its intended purpose. That licence does not let you:

copy, modify, or create derivative works of the app;
reverse engineer or decompile it, except to the extent the law says you may;
scrape, crawl or bulk-extract data from it, or use bots or automated means to access it;
resell, sublicense or commercially exploit it or its content;
interfere with its operation, probe its security, or circumvent rate limits, blocks, mutes or bans;
use it to build a competing product.

5. Your content

"Your content" means everything you put into MapMeet: events, messages, photos, videos, voice notes, polls, profile details, reviews and anything else.

You keep ownership of your content. We don't claim it.

So that we can actually run the service, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt (for example, resizing an image or generating a waveform for a voice note), transmit and display your content — solely for the purpose of operating, securing and improving MapMeet, and only for as long as we host it. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except where the content has been shared into a conversation other people are part of, or must be retained for safety or legal reasons.

You promise that:

you own your content, or have the rights to post it;
it doesn't infringe anyone's copyright, trademark, privacy or other rights;
you have the consent of any identifiable person appearing in a photo, video or recording you upload.

We do not systematically pre-screen content, but we may review, refuse or remove anything that breaks these terms. Removal is at our discretion and doesn't create an obligation to remove anything else.

6. Rules of conduct

Don't use MapMeet to do any of the following.

Harass, bully, threaten or stalk anyone.
Post hate speech or attack people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age or veteran status.
Post sexual content involving minors, in any form. We report this to the authorities.
Post pornographic or gratuitously violent material.
Encourage or glorify self-harm, suicide, or eating disorders.
Organise or promote illegal activity, including the sale of drugs, weapons, stolen goods or counterfeits.
Spam — unsolicited advertising, chain messages, pyramid schemes, mass unsolicited direct messages, or bulk event creation to promote something.
Defraud or deceive anyone, including fake events, fake giveaways, phishing, or soliciting money under false pretences.
Create fake or misleading events, or pin an event at a location that has nothing to do with it.
Use tags or hashtags that are abusive, obscene, hateful, deceptive or unrelated to the event, or that exist to game search.
Impersonate another person, a business, or MapMeet staff.
Publish someone else's private information — home address, phone number, documents, private messages — without their consent.
Post someone's photograph or recording without their consent.
Abuse the reporting or review systems — filing false reports, or coordinating reviews to attack someone.
Evade a block, mute or ban, including by creating a new account.
Upload malware, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the service or to another user's account.

This list is illustrative, not exhaustive. Behaviour that is obviously harmful but not itemised here is still not allowed.

7. Events, groups and invites

If you create an event, you are its organiser, not us. You are responsible for its accuracy, for any permissions or licences it requires, and for what happens there.
Make sure the details are true: the place, the time, the cost, and any age or access restrictions.
Don't pin an event on private property you have no right to use, or at a location intended to mislead.
Invite links to events and groups are valid for 24 hours and let anyone holding them join. Treat them accordingly — anyone you send one to can pass it on.
Private events are visible only to people you invite, but nothing stops an attendee from repeating what they see. Don't rely on a private event to keep a secret.
Group creators can remove members. We may remove events or groups that break these terms.

8. Meeting people in real life

MapMeet does not run background checks, identity checks or any other vetting of its users. A verified email address is not a verified person. Ratings and reviews are written by other users and can be wrong, unfair or manipulated.

When you attend an event or meet someone you found through MapMeet, you do so entirely at your own risk. We are not a party to that meeting, we don't supervise it, and we are not responsible for the conduct of anyone you meet — online or off.

Basic precautions, which we strongly recommend:

Meet in a public place the first time.
Tell a friend or family member where you're going and who with.
Arrange your own transport, and keep your phone charged.
Don't share your home address, financial details or identity documents with someone you've just met.
Be sceptical of anyone who asks you for money, however sympathetic the story.
Trust your instincts and leave if something feels wrong.

If you are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first. Then report the user in the app so we can act on the account.

9. Imported events and tickets

Some events shown in MapMeet are not created by users. They are public listings gathered from ticketing sites — currently karabas.com — and shown on the map for convenience.

We are not the organiser, promoter or seller of those events, and we have no relationship with the organisers.
Details come from the source site. They may be out of date, incomplete or wrong, and events may be moved or cancelled without us knowing.
We never sell tickets. Tapping through to buy takes you to a third-party site. Your purchase, your payment, your refund and your consumer rights are entirely between you and that seller, under their terms.
Always confirm the details with the official source before travelling.

10. Ratings and reviews

Reviews must be honest, based on genuine first-hand experience, and about conduct — not about someone's race, religion, appearance, disability, sexuality or other protected characteristic.
Reviews are shown without your name attached, but they are not untraceable: we can identify the author, and we will where a review is abused. See the Privacy Policy.
Don't trade, buy, sell or coordinate reviews, and don't use them for revenge.
We may remove reviews that break these rules, and we may remove an obviously false review at the request of the person it targets.

11. Moderation, reports and enforcement

Every user can block another user and report a profile, giving one or more reasons. Reports are reviewed by MapMeet moderators, who see who filed them; the person reported does not.

Depending on what we find, we may:

remove the content;
issue a warning;
mute the account temporarily — 30 minutes, 60 minutes, 24 hours or a week — during which it can't post, message or join events;
ban the account permanently;
dismiss the report, if it isn't justified.

Serious cases — threats to life, sexual content involving minors, credible violence — may be escalated to law enforcement, and we may act immediately without prior warning.

Appeals. If you think a decision about your account was wrong, email artem.liaskovets@gmail.com with your username and what happened. A person will review it. We aim to reply within 14 days.

Filing deliberately false reports is itself a breach of these terms.

12. Availability and changes

MapMeet is provided on an "as available" basis. We don't guarantee it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available in any particular country.
We may change, suspend or discontinue features at any time. Where a change is significant and we can reasonably foresee it, we'll give notice in the app.
MapMeet is early-stage software and under active development. Expect bugs, and please report them through Settings → Send Feedback.
Keeping a compatible device, operating system and internet connection is up to you, along with any data charges.

13. Fees

MapMeet is currently free. If we introduce paid features in future, we will say so clearly before you are charged, and you will never be charged without agreeing first. Paid features would come with their own additional terms.

14. Our intellectual property

MapMeet — its name, logo, design, interface and software — belongs to AlyaskaTeam and is protected by intellectual property law. Nothing in these terms transfers any of it to you. Don't use our name or branding without written permission.

Map data is © OpenStreetMap contributors and is used under the Open Database Licence. Satellite imagery is provided by Esri; terrain maps by OpenTopoMap. Those providers retain their own rights.

Copyright complaints. If something on MapMeet infringes your copyright, email artem.liaskovets@gmail.com with a description of the work, where the infringing material is, your contact details, and a statement that you are the rights holder or authorised to act for them.

15. Ending the agreement

You can stop using MapMeet at any time, and can ask us to delete your account as described in the Privacy Policy.

We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these terms, if your account is used to harm others, if we are required to by law, or if we discontinue the service. Where it is reasonable to do so, we'll give notice and an explanation; for serious breaches we may act immediately.

Sections that by their nature should survive termination — content licence for material already shared into other people's conversations, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnity and governing law — do survive it.

16. Disclaimers

To the fullest extent the law allows, MapMeet is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

We specifically do not warrant that:

the app will be uninterrupted, secure or error-free;
information about any event — user-created or imported — is accurate, complete or current;
any user is who they claim to be, or will behave lawfully or decently;
any event will take place, or will be as described;
content posted by users is accurate or inoffensive.

We are not responsible for the content or practices of third-party sites and services MapMeet links to, including ticket sellers and map providers.

17. Limitation of liability

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected.

Subject to that, and to the fullest extent permitted by law:

we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of profit, revenue, data, goodwill or opportunity, however caused;
we are not liable for the acts or omissions of other users, whether online or in person, including anything that happens at or on the way to an event;
our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to MapMeet is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or (b) EUR 100.

18. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify AlyaskaTeam against claims, damages, losses and reasonable legal costs arising from your content, your use of MapMeet, your breach of these terms, or your violation of anyone else's rights. This does not apply to the extent the claim is caused by our own breach or negligence.

19. Additional terms for the Apple App Store

If you obtained MapMeet from the Apple App Store, the following also applies:

These terms are between you and AlyaskaTeam only, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for MapMeet or its content.
Your licence to use MapMeet is limited to use on Apple-branded devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service.
Apple has no obligation to provide support for MapMeet. Support requests go to artem.liaskovets@gmail.com.
If MapMeet fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any. Beyond that, Apple has no warranty obligation. Any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs or expenses attributable to a failure to conform to a warranty are our responsibility.
Apple is not responsible for addressing any claim by you or a third party relating to MapMeet, including product liability claims, claims that it fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer protection or similar legislation.
If a third party claims MapMeet infringes their intellectual property, AlyaskaTeam — not Apple — is responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement and discharge of that claim.
You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as "terrorist supporting", and are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and, on your acceptance, have the right to enforce them against you.

20. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of Ukraine, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Ukraine.

If you are a consumer resident in the EEA or the UK, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer law in your country of residence, or of the right to bring proceedings there.

Before starting formal proceedings, please contact us at artem.liaskovets@gmail.com. Most disputes can be settled informally, and we will try in good faith to do so.

21. General

Whole agreement. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between us about MapMeet.
Severability. If any provision is held unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
No waiver. If we don't enforce a provision, we haven't waived it.
Assignment. You may not transfer your rights under these terms. We may assign ours to a successor in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets.
Changes. We may update these terms. The effective date at the top shows the current version, and we will notify you in the app or by email before material changes take effect. Continuing to use MapMeet afterwards means you accept the new terms; if you don't, stop using the app and ask us to delete your account.
Language. The English version of these terms governs, whatever translation you may be reading.
